EMERGENCIES

If you have an orthodontic emergency during the normal office hours please call our office to schedule an appointment. Our phone number is (831) 422-7424. If you have a minor orthodontic emergency after hours involving a poking wire please use the wax that was given to you. The wax can be placed over any poking wires. A pencil eraser can many times be used to push back any wires that are poking. If you have a major orthodontic emergency that cannot wait until the next morning please call our office at (831) 422-7424 for emergency coverage information.

Loose Brackets or Bands

If a brace comes loose call JM Orthodontic Associate's office as soon as possible for advice. Sometimes it is important to re-attach the brace right away but most of the time it is okay to wait until your next appointment. If you have a problem on the weekend or at night and need to cut a wire or slide a bracket off the wire please feel free to do so and call our office on the next working day. We will evaluate the problem to determine if it is necessary for you to be seen immediately.

Wire Irritations

If a wire on your braces is causing an irritation try pushing it away from the area being irritated by using the eraser end of a pencil or a cotton swab. If the wire cannot be tucked away, cover the end with a small piece of wax or cotton ball. You may also cut the wire with scissors or nail clippers. Call our office for an appointment if you cannot solve the problem.

Lost Separators

Occasionally patients lose a separator during the process that prepares your mouth for braces. Please call our office at (831) 422-7424 to see if the separator needs to be replaced.

Discomfort Associated with Treatment

Most orthodontic patients experience some discomfort during the first week after their braces are placed and after routine adjustments. You can use non-aspirin pain reliever or ibuprofen along with a softer diet to ease this discomfort. If your braces are causing soreness in your jaw joints, try using a moist heat compress or a warm wash cloth to apply gentle pressure to alleviate the ache. This discomfort should subside in several days.

Our office is committed to making sure that you are comfortable throughout your orthodontic care.
